Ace Hicks is a filmmaker with over twenty years of professional acting experience, and over ten years as a professional photographer. She has a strong passion for authentic storytelling and bringing forth the raw, human and existential themes that connect us all. After studying acting on a full scholarship at Vancouver Actors Studio in Vancouver, BC, she attended Langara College to study screenwriting. She wrote and produced the short film, Sleep Buddy and Take Care of Me is her directorial debut. Acting credits include Getting to Know You, Hemlock Grove, Bitten, The Twelve Trees of Christmas and The Firm. Stepping into the directing arena has been one of Ace’s longest dreams and she’s excited to be expanding her role as a creative and filmmaker by moving into the directing landscape.
I wrote Take Care of Me with the intention of creating very authentic and raw characters. My goal was to show Grace and James true love for one another and show real intimacy between them. I also wanted an honest look into the panic and fear some young couples face when they find out that they are pregnant unexpectedly and don’t know how they’ll cope. It’s hard enough to even make rent, providing for another human being seems unfathomable. I set out to make Take Care of Me in a beautifully simple and grounded way, paying tribute to an older generation of films that I grew up inspired by that relies mainly on the relationships between human beings. Directing my real life partner, Julian Robino was an absolute dream come true with many laughs and tears on and off camera. And No, we’re not actually pregnant. 😉
