Rose
by Lucienne Ooijman

We rose on the shores white and almighty.
Like a wall I fall upon you and besiege
you with answers.

My mouth dry and crackled like
a rock on fire.
Hold my tongue, forge my silence.

I dwell upon your tale of
shores way past.
I listen, mouth the words
you speak.

Like a prayer in the ocean
I rise above the wave, see?
My petals wet, my thorns
untouched.
To the shore, so gentle!

You see the reflection in me,
when I go down under
I still wear that stupid red dress
